History
The statue is located in the castle. In 1396, after having betrayed Grand Duke Vytautas the Great, Prince Fyodor Koriatovych of Podolia fled from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to Hungary. He received the castle of Munkács and its surroundings from King Sigismund of Hungary as a fief in exchange for his title Prince of Podolia. They were relatives, because his sister was Sigismund's mother.
On his instructions, the castle was surrounded by moat, walls and four round bastions in 1401. A 85 meters deep well was also dug in the courtyard of the castle. He had an Orthodox monastery built on the banks of the Latorca river (on the Black Hill), which later had a rich library. Koriatovych brought the Ruthenian settlers to the area. He died in 1414. After the death of his wife, Olga, in 1419, the castle returned to King Sigismund.
