History
The village of Várpalánk was established directly below the castle hill of Munkács. At the end of the 17th century, this area was surrounded by moat and fortified with a palisade, so it became the outer fortification of a stone castle on a hill.
At that time only the wooden houses of the soldiers of the castle stood here, between the castle hill and the moat. In 1706, during the Hungarian War of Independence led by Rákóczi Ferenc II, a mill and a coin mint were built here. After the peace treaty of Szatmár, German soldiers discharged from the imperial army were settled here, they became the first inhabitants of the village.
The inhabitants of Várpalánk, who, after their discharge, often engaged in masonry, lived under the direction of the castle captain, and their spiritual care was provided by priests serving in the castle. On the site of the old chapel, the new church was consecrated on October 20, 1912. Liturgical languages: Hungarian, German.
