The architect was the Austrian Adolf Oberlander. The hotel was originally called Grand Hotel R\u00f3nai, but it was soon purchased by Winter Lajos, who renamed it to Grand Hotel Royal. It was the first large hotel building of the town. During the Communism the hotel was renamed to Garand Hotel Slovan.
