It was a club, library, apprentice school and exhibition space for artisans' products, before being renovated in 1989 and becoming the home of the Franz Binder Museum.@\nFranz Binder, a merchant, lived in Egypt for 10 years and was appointed Honorary Deputy Consul to Sudan by the Austrian Imperial Court in 1857. In 1862, he donated a collection of 500 items from the tribes along the Nile to the museums.
