History
1322
The village was first mentioned as Messendorf and was the property of the Cistercian Abbey of Kerc.
Around 1350
The aisleless Gothic church was built. Its tower was converted into a strong bastion, walling in the entrance gate on the ground floor.
1495
The church was surrounded by a sandstone and lime stone defensive wall, which is still five metres high today. Two further three-storey towers were built in the south-east and south-west corners of the fortification.
16th century
A second outer defensive wall was built with loopholes on the west, south and east sides. It is still three méteres high.
1701
The fortified church was restored and renovated.
1888
Part of the outer wall and the tower in the south-east corner of the inner wall were demolished.
